The Holy Week observances and Easter celebrations in the southernmost churches of the mission area were very special indeed this year, with many of the services being led by Bishop Gregory, and a dawn Easter Vigil and First Mass of Easter at St Sannan’s.
Schoolchildren from the four village schools were welcomed to St Sannan’s, Llansannan, for ‘Experience Easter’, composed of six interactive stations around the church to explain the events of the last week of Jesus’ life. Volunteers from all four churches set these up and worked the children to develop their understanding of Easter.
Bishop Gregory led the services of reflection on Tuesday and Wednesday of Holy Week, and Maundy Thursday evening, and returned very early on Easter morning!
The Easter Vigil began in darkness at 5.45 am at St Sannan’s, hearing and responding to the Vigil readings. At dawn the new fire and Paschal Candle were lit and everyone made a joyful noise to celebrate the resurrection, leading into the Eucharist. About thirty people were there, and enjoyed a lovely breakfast afterwards.
